TreeScope started as a way to convert match trees into GEDCOMs, but has evolved into a full match tree analysis tool designed for genetic genealogy workflows.
It’s not a tree builder, but the ability to generate and download GEDCOMs makes it especially useful when working in newer IGG tree-building platforms like CanopyLink and FIGGTreePro. It’s also well suited for working through connections in your own genetic genealogy research and unknown parentage cases.

Import trees from multiple platforms
Import match trees from GEDmatch, FTDNA (via DNAGedcom), WikiTree, One2Tree, and standard GEDCOM files. Load as many as you want and work across them all at once in a single workspace.

Name your projects
Give each research session a name to keep things organized — for example, "Jane's Match Trees" or "Case 4 — Unknown Parentage." Your project name saves with your session automatically.

MRCA Finder
Compare trees one-to-one or run an all-to-all scan to identify potential shared ancestors across your match set. Results are labeled Confirmed (full path traced in both trees) or Candidate (partial path — usually because a tree doesn't go back far enough). You can review results as you work, marking strong candidates and moving past false positives—making it easier to refine relationships over time instead of treating analysis as a one-time pass.

Surname and location search
Search surnames and locations across all loaded trees at once and sort by surname frequency to spot patterns — a quick way to identify which names keep appearing across multiple match trees.

Fan chart visualization
Each tree displays as an interactive fan chart, color-coded by grandparent line. The Origin overlay color-codes ancestors by birthplace so you can quickly get a feel for geographic patterns. The X-DNA overlay highlights the X-DNA inheritance path. You can also export any fan chart as a PNG.

Optionally import DNA match data
Add shared cM, X-DNA, and haplogroup data by simply copying and pasting your match list from GEDmatch or FTDNA. It's not a DNA evaluation tool, but it helps to see how much DNA you share with a match while you're looking at their tree. You can also enter cM values manually per kit.

Cross-platform linking
If you find the same match's tree on two different platforms, you can link those kits together. TreeScope treats them as one person and combines their ancestor pools for MRCA analysis so nothing gets missed. Reversible any time.

Bulk GEDCOM export
Download GEDCOMs individually, as a ZIP bundle, or merge multiple trees into a single GEDCOM. The merge creates one file containing all your floating match trees — ready to upload anywhere that accepts GEDCOMs. An optional DNA suffix adds kit number and cM data to the subject name to keep everything organized when uploading to IGG platforms.
